The Sentroid Document Displayer v3.3
====================================
I can't believe it... I'm still at it! Another version passed, a minor (I
mean REALLY minor) bug fix, a bit more tweaking (notably a TOS v1.0 fix), and
Sentroid version 3.3 is here...
--- Features: -----------------------------------------------------------------
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
«» Super-fast display, scrolling and paging to allow you to zip around your
documents with ease!
«» The ability to display documents packed with Pack-Ice v2.4
«» The ability to display PICTURES IN THE DOCUMENTS, just like the ST+ shell;
now half-meg owners can enjoy ST+ to it's fullest (almost... you've still
got to use the fileselector).
«» The ability to display packed .DAT pictures (like the ones in ST+ - now
half-meg owners can see the low-res artwork as well as the medium res
pictures in the documents!)
«» Virtually unlimited file size (there is a limit, but it's likely to cover
everything you'll ever load - 2,147,483,647 bytes !) (of course, it is
limited by available memory)
«» A really flashy scrolling credits screen
«» User-definable bookmarks (up to 8!)
«» A super-fast string search routine (version 3.3 will see an even faster
search; for the technically minded, v3.3 will use a Knuth-Morris-Pratt
search algorithm which works very, very well with unique keys...)
«» The ability to use the command line to tell it what file to load (i.e., you
can use it successfully with 'Install Application' or CLIs)
«» Optionally, the ability to have multiple fonts.
This is a distinct improvement over versions prior to v3.2!
--- Using the Sentroid Document Displayer -------------------------------------
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
This is dead easy. Just run SENTROID.PRG from anywhere and select the file you
want to view with the file selector (Cancel exits).
If you like, you can install it as an application with whichever desktop you
use (I use NeoDesk). This is equally simple (consult the manuals if you need
help). The file selector does not appear on startup if you use this option.
It will still appear if you elect to load another document.
Please do not run this document displayer from the AUTO folder, because the GEM
file selector is used.
The Sentroid Document Displayer will not work in hi-res, or on large screens.
To get that extra zip, custom routines are used which write directly to the
screen. It will work in ST Medium res, and will change to ST Medium res in most
other resolutions (but only during document display - the fileselector will be
displayed in the resolution that the displayer was executed in).
You can get a list of what keys do what by pressing HELP during document
display.
--- Legal stuff ---------------------------------------------------------------
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
This document displayer is an exclusive ST+ version and may only be
distributed by means of the disk magazine ST+, of which Dave Hollis is the
editor.
Steven Moore asserts his legal right to be identified as the author of this
program.
No warranty of any kind, express or implied, is made with respect to the

--- Bugs & Feedback -----------------------------------------------------------
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
This document displayer will not work in hi-res or any extended resolutions.
It writes directly to the screen memory for speed. However, it will attempt
to change resolutions in cases of emergency (although the file-selector
is always displayed in the resolution you loaded it in).
This program is written in pure 68000 machine code using Devpac-3 from HiSoft.
I now have more detailed information regarding compatibility: Sentroid works
fine on all ST, STF, STM, STFM, and STE machines. It becomes confused on TT
systems, and hence also on Atari clones (Medusa, Hades, etc.).
Falcon owners are able to run Sentroid, but if the Falcon was not in an ST-
compatible resolution, then the resolution will not be restored properly. Also,
there appears to be a possibly related problem involving picture display (the
unpacker routine? It uses Getrez to determine the unpack data tables: On
Falcons, the results from Getrez are confused, to say the least).
The Falcon incompatibilities will be solved as soon as possible, bearing in
mind that I don't own a Falcon (any changes I make SHOULD solve the problem,
but the above legal warning applies here - I can't test it myself).
I have no information regarding compatibility with the other Atari systems (ST
Book, ST Pad, Portfolio...) although this does not seem likely.
Certainly, Sentroid will not run on a monochrome monitor.
In any bug report, please include version number and release. You can find this
detailed information from the scroller and version panel on the credits screen
(press C when on the help screen).
This release is an ST+ exclusive; it should not be distributed by any other
means without my express permission.
Any feedback, tips, suggestions, money :-), etc, to:-

--- An advert -----------------------------------------------------------------
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
ST+ is a unique and refreshing disk-magazine, aimed at every ST enthusiast!
We are the fastest growing diskmag in the U.K., and we're growing pretty
rapidly abroad as well! (In fact, issue 7 - I think - was no.2 on the download
list on GENIE - pretty good going, considering the competition!)
It is submissionware; that is to say, each issue is free as long as you enclose
a submission.
Contact ST+ at:-
ST+,
43 Spenfield Ct.
Lings,
Northampton,
NN3 8LZ.
England.
PLEASE enclose a submission, which can include articles on virtually any ST or
non-ST related subject. We'd be especially interested to hear from owners of
Falcons, Jaguars, or Lynxes (the Atari machines, not the animals).
(I'd also be interested to hear from any other assembly coders - I've been
writing all the assembly articles since the year dot! PLEASE HELP ME!)
--- That's all folks! ---------------------------------------------------------
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
By the way, the "Thought for the Day" message on the credits screen changes
each time you access the credits screen !
Also, it is possible to view packed .DAT low-res pictures, by simply selecting
them as normal.
Enjoy!
